tattooed portrait

traditional mom

Although cosy in my niche at home, I still gravitate to the buzz and theatre of the city - my subjects are gatherings whether a crowded bus, Carnival, markets, tattoo conventions, playgrounds, Soweto streets, Japanese and Indian festivals. The city stage seethes with the movement of bodies, momentary glimpses. My camera is a sketchbook. Back home to compose and thread into images . . .

My work begins with mark making and progresses to adding-on layers of detail often collaged. The process is not hidden and, instead, forms a patina on the surface. The artwork is then digitally photographed and recorded as a Giclee print of archival colour and paper.
